Every runner knows, the weekend long run is a highlight of the training week. And while my mileage is still pretty low to be considered a long run, it is the longest I have run since June 12, 2022, so I’ll take it. I am putting in the miles to complete the Operation Iraqi Freedom 200.3 miler and also training to complete the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.
I didn’t look at my watch during these seven miles. I just wanted to see how I felt running at a comfortable sustainable pace. Plus, it was too cold to pull back my cuff and expose my wrists. So, I was really pleased to see some easy negative splits: 9:21, 9:18, 8:57, 8:57, 8:53, 8:56, and 9:02 with heart rate average of 144. (target pace is 8:55 and target heart rate is <145).
The sun looked cold and the clouds looked frozen and my lungs whimpered a bit when hit with that first frosty inhale. But every runner knows, this is the day the Lord has made, and it welcomes you to run. Rejoice and be glad in it.
