For the Love of Design

Whenever anyone asks me what I do for work, I counter with, “Isn’t there something more exciting you’d like to know about me?” Because, truly, there are a million things about me that are more interesting than what I do for work. Although I am happy to tell you all about it and watch your gaze gloss over while your eyes roll back in your head.

What could be more fun, and more fascinating, than the combination of instructional systems design and revenue enablement with a hint of learning theory? In my opinion? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

One of my favorite articles in Fast Company once challenged, “Is design a craft, a tool, or an obsession?” (in fact, if you type that phrase into google, my LinkedIn profile displays among your search results). I’ve had it taped to my computer monitor for almost seventeen years now. So, what is design; a craft, a tool, or an obsession? If you ask me, it’s all three.

And it’s the best, and most rewarding, place to have a built a career. I might not crash a glass ceiling in this lifetime, but I cornered the market on doing what I am best at in the world: the perfect combination of clever creativity and structured process, my work suits me. And who wouldn’t like to know more about that?
